Route 215: Port Louis to Grand Bay
One of my
favourite bus trips is that of Route 215, from Port Louis to Grand Bay. Passengers board in at the new bus terminus,
between the Trou Fanfaron Police Station and the Tamil Temple
People were
waiting under the covered bus stop, perspiring as it was very hot and
humid. As it is a special Express route,
with air conditioned buses, and all passengers have to pay, including students
and elderly ones, one tends to see better off people taking this bus.
The bus arrived,
big, imposing and majestic. People got
off, tourists in couples or in families, young fashionable girls in shorts,
teenagers with earphones plugged in their ears, listening to music from their
smartphones. They all looked smart.
I chose a window
seat, and what struck me was that the bus looked modern, clean and
comfortable. The bus driver also acted
as a conductor, taking money from the passengers. The fare was a flat rate of Rs 38. The seats were spacious, and I didn’t feel I
had to fight for my space and territory as in other buses.
In
30 minutes it has reached Grand Bay by the motorway route. The first stop was the shopping centre
Grand-Baie La Croisette, where several youngsters alighted. They must be either going to work there or
meeting friends.
A
very enjoyable quick trip. 30-35 minutes
of travel, as speedy as by car.
It’s
a pleasure getting there. The frequency
is also good, at intervals of 30 minutes.
